Features
What health metrics does Vitalstat track?
Vitalstat tracks sleep stages (Deep, REM, Light, Awake), heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), steps, calories burned, workouts, recovery score, strain score, cardiovascular age, VO2 Max, blood oxygen (SpO2), respiratory rate, and nutrition data including calories and macros. It also provides AI Morning Briefings, AI Weekly Narratives, AI Sleep Optimization, AI Health Chat, cross-metric correlation analysis, trend anomaly detection, and actionable behavioral nudges.
How does the AI food analysis work?
Vitalstat uses AI-powered image recognition to analyze photos of your meals and estimate nutritional content. Simply take a photo of your food, and the AI will identify the items and provide calorie and macro breakdowns. You can also scan barcodes to look up products from a database of over 2 million items.
What is the recovery score?
The recovery score is a daily metric that indicates how well your body has recovered from recent activity and stress. It is calculated using a scientifically-weighted algorithm: Sleep Performance (40%), Heart Rate Variability (25%), Restorative Sleep (15%), Resting Heart Rate (10%), and Respiratory Rate (10%), each compared against your personal 28-day rolling baseline. A higher score means your body is better prepared for intense activity.
How does sleep tracking work?
Vitalstat analyzes sleep data from your wearable device to break down your sleep into stages: Deep, REM, Light, and Awake. It also tracks heart rate during sleep, calculates a sleep score, and monitors sleep consistency over time to help you optimize your rest.
Can I track nutrition and calories?
Yes, Vitalstat offers comprehensive nutrition tracking. You can log meals via AI food photo analysis, barcode scanning, or manual entry. The app tracks calories, macronutrients (protein, carbs, fat), and pulls data from Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central, Edamam, and Spoonacular databases.
AI Features
What is the AI Morning Briefing in Vitalstat?
The AI Morning Briefing is a daily personalized health summary generated by Vitalstat's AI. Each morning, it analyzes your overnight sleep data, recovery score, HRV trends, and recent activity to deliver a concise briefing with actionable recommendations for your day. It tells you whether your body is ready for intense training or needs recovery, and highlights any anomalies in your health metrics.
What is the AI Weekly Narrative?
The AI Weekly Narrative is a weekly health review that Vitalstat's AI generates every week. It analyzes your sleep patterns, recovery trends, activity levels, and nutrition data over the past seven days to identify trends, correlations, and areas for improvement. It provides a narrative summary with specific, actionable recommendations.
How does the AI Sleep Optimizer work?
The AI Sleep Optimizer analyzes your sleep data, bedtime patterns, HRV, and recovery metrics to generate personalized sleep recommendations. It identifies factors that correlate with your best and worst sleep nights and provides specific behavioral suggestions to improve sleep quality, such as optimal bedtime windows and pre-sleep routines.
What is the AI Health Chat?
The AI Health Chat is a conversational health assistant built into Vitalstat. You can ask it questions about your health data, such as "Why was my recovery low today?" or "What trends do you see in my sleep this month?" It provides data-driven answers based on your personal health metrics.
Does Vitalstat use AI for nutrition tracking?
Yes. Vitalstat uses AI in two ways for nutrition: (1) Photo-to-nutrition analysis that identifies food items in a photo and estimates calories and macronutrients, and (2) AI recipe generation that creates meal suggestions based on your macro goals, dietary preferences, and available ingredients.
What health correlations does Vitalstat detect?
Vitalstat performs cross-metric correlation analysis to find relationships between your health metrics. For example, it can identify how your sleep quality affects next-day recovery, how training strain impacts HRV, or how nutrition patterns correlate with energy levels. The AI also performs trend anomaly detection to alert you when metrics deviate significantly from your personal baseline.
Integrations
How do I connect my Apple Watch?
Vitalstat connects to Apple Watch through Apple HealthKit. During setup, you will be asked to grant permission to read health data types. The app reads data directly from your iPhone — no separate Apple Watch app installation is required.
How do I connect my Garmin device?
To connect your Garmin device, go to Settings in Vitalstat and tap "Connect Garmin." You will be redirected to Garmin to authorize access. Once connected, Vitalstat automatically receives your health data via real-time webhook sync — no manual imports needed.
How do I connect my Polar device?
Connect your Polar device by going to Settings and tapping "Connect Polar." You will sign into your Polar Flow account to authorize access. Vitalstat will then sync your exercises, daily activity, sleep, nightly recharge, and heart rate data.
How do I connect my Oura Ring?
Go to Settings in Vitalstat and tap "Connect Oura." You will be redirected to sign into your Oura account and authorize access. Vitalstat syncs your sleep, readiness, activity, HRV, SpO2, stress, and resilience data from your Oura Ring.
How do I connect Google Health Connect / Google Fit?
On Android, Vitalstat integrates natively with Google Health Connect (Android's modern health sharing platform) and Google Fit. To connect them, open Vitalstat on your Android device, navigate to Settings, and select "Connect Health Connect". Grant the read permissions for the metrics you wish to track, and your data will automatically sync in the background.
How do I connect WHOOP?
Open Vitalstat 2.2.0 or later, go to Settings, select WHOOP, and authorize access through WHOOP OAuth. Vitalstat can then import permitted recovery, sleep, cycles, workouts, body measurements, and profile data.
How do I connect Strava?
Open Vitalstat 2.2.0 or later, go to Settings or the data source connection screen, select Strava, and approve the requested Strava permissions. Vitalstat reads permitted activity data for your private dashboard and does not post activities to Strava on your behalf.
Privacy & Data
Where is my health data stored?
Most source health data is cached locally on your device. Garmin uses secure backend sync through Firebase, and AI features can send relevant health summaries or food images through Vitalstat's authenticated backend proxy when you enable and use those features. If you enable Hosted AI Access, Vitalstat stores an encrypted MCP vault so AI clients you authorize can read the selected data. Google Health and other source tokens are stored in the device Keychain where applicable.
Can I use my own AI app with Vitalstat data?
Yes. Vitalstat can expose your selected data through local MCP for same-device clients or Hosted MCP for remote clients such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other compatible MCP apps. This is opt-in, read-only, and revocable from the app. Vitalstat does not run or pay for the external AI model conversation.
Does Vitalstat sell my data?
No. Vitalstat does not sell, rent, or share your personal or health data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties for marketing purposes.
How do I delete my account and data?
On iOS, open Vitalstat > Profile > Settings and tap "Delete Vitalstat Account & Server Data." This deletes app-owned backend records tied to your anonymous Firebase identifier, revokes hosted MCP access when configured, then clears connected-source state, local source caches, and local MCP vault state from the device.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. All data transmitted between Vitalstat and external services uses HTTPS encryption. OAuth tokens for health services are stored in your device's encrypted Keychain. On-device health data benefits from iOS built-in encryption when your device is locked.
Does Vitalstat use any analytics or advertising SDKs?
Vitalstat does not use advertising SDKs, ad networks, data brokers, or tracking pixels. The app may use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics for product analytics and diagnostics as described in the privacy policy, without sending raw health metrics, journal entries, food photos, or AI conversations to analytics services.
